American Hawaii Cruises went bankrupt on 10/19/2001
Unlike other pages on this site, I did refresh the links and some other information on this page so that it can continue to be helpful to those planning a cruise in or to Hawaii.

Books
By far the best and only books you will need to make great do-it-yourself adventures on the Hawaiian Islands are listed below. The only drawback to these books is you are always left feeling that you need to spend more time than you have. We look at the bright side and say that it gives us an excuse to come back again and again.
• Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook
• Hawaii the Big Island Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook
• The Ultimate Kaua'i Guidebook
Internet
Don't neglect the many useful internet resources for your vacation. In addition to the links that I provide in these pages, there are dozens (hundreds? thousands?) of useful sites out there.
Newsgroups
Newsgroups are part of the internet that most people don't know about. To get them you have to configure a news reader or email program to access your ISPs news server. Some internet browsers also support news reading. To see if yours does, click on the link below. News groups can be accessed by anyone, so use sound judgment when reading advice and opinions. Also, as with any other form of internet communication, do NOT download or execute any attachments unless you are expecting them.

Message Boards
Message boards are the commercial equivalent of newsgroups.

Indexes and Search Engines
I'm always surprised at the number of people who don't know of, or don't know how to use, search engines. My personal favorite is Google (even though my site isn't listed on there yet). The link will take you to their advanced search page. Take a moment to read their help page too. One useful tip you will find there is that typing "cruis*" will get you all the pages with "cruise, cruising, cruises".
Another site that DOES list my page already (it can take MONTHS for a site to get listed) is DMOZ.org . This is the world's largest human-edited internet directory and usually has much higher quality sites than other search engines.
